Several public holidays fall on a weekend in the coming year, but with a little planning you can still extend your vacation by a few days. How this works best, read here.
Many hopes are pinned on the year 2021. Among other things, after the Corona year, many probably long for a journey without complications and restrictions. To what extent this will be possible is still written in the stars. However, it is certain that the valuable vacation days give more properly used.
Several holidays fall in the upcoming year rather unfavorably – so for example the 1st of May is a Saturday and also the Christmas holidays occupy exactly one weekend – some can be used nevertheless well. The maximum is in the transition between May and June as well as October and November: a good two weeks of vacation or 16 days off with only eight vacation days are possible.
Overview of public holidays in 2021:
✔January: If you want to start the year off right with some time off, you can take advantage of New Year’s Day (Friday) and Epiphany (Wednesday), giving you the following options:
January 1 to 6: two vacation days, six days off
January 6 to 10: two vacation days, five days off
January 1 to 10: four vacation days, ten days off
Who does not strike here, must wait first, because February and March have no holidays and window days to offer.
✔ April: Thanks to Easter Monday on April 5, a long weekend is guaranteed, Easter week including two weekends (nine days off) with only four vacation days to be had (April 3 to 11).
✔ May & June: although the national holiday on the 1st falls on a Saturday, as mentioned, May remains the best month to save vacation days, as the 13th (Thursday) is Ascension Day and the 24th is Whit Monday. If a longer vacation is planned, it is best to still take the first week of June, because on the 3rd is Corpus Christi (Thursday). This is therefore possible:
May 8 to 16: four vacation days, nine days off.
May 13 to 16: one vacation day, four days off (extended weekend)
May 22 to 30: four vacation days, nine days off
May 22 to June 6: eight vacation days, 16 days off
May 29 to June 6: four vacation days, nine days off
June 3 to 6: one vacation day, four days off (long weekend)
Then again, there are a few months off: there are no holidays in July and September, and the only one in August (Assumption Day on the 15th) falls on a Sunday.
✔ October & November: The national holiday on October 26 will be a Tuesday in 2021. That means, on the one hand, it offers a long weekend. For a longer time off, on the other hand, All Saints’ Day on November 1 (Monday) can be used at the same time. So these are the options:
Oct. 23 to 26: one day off, four days off (extended weekend)
October 23 to November 1: four vacation days, ten days off
October 23 to November 7: eight vacation days, 16 days off
October 30 to November 7: four vacation days, nine days off
December: Christmas 2021 is not a good time for vacation – December 25 and 26 fall on a weekend, so New Year’s Day is already a week away. This leaves only the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday, December 8, to close out the year. This can be turned into either a long weekend in both directions (December 4 to 8/8 to 12 – two vacation days, five days off) or a one-week Advent vacation (December 4 to 12 – four vacation days, nine days off).
